Black Rock Camping : Four days off grid
Black Rock Campground is quite literally.. STUNNING! In fact it is our new favourite place to camp. It is the first time we had camped off grid, no phone reception, no electricity and no running water, located 15KM down a dirt track in the Bundjalung National Park, it really is the middle of no-where. The roads were made of sand and each site was surrounded with it’s own personal bush land which made it feel like you were the only people there.
Our girls rode around of bikes with friends, exploring with a freedom they don’t have in our urban home setting.. and they totally flourished. We went dune climbing at dawn and crab watching by night.
We swam daily in the Jerusalem Creek and went kayaking at dusk, we fished in the ocean and pippi danced our way to finding bait. We swam in the ocean, only in the shallows as it was unpatrolled, we watched the sunset over the dunes before cooking supper on an open fire.
I tested out working on my laptop (without internet) as a trail run for when we travel whilst my husband climbed trees and jumped into the creek with our girls and friends. We shooed snakes away from under tables and woke to fresh kangeroo poo outside our tent, we saw bandicoots and eagles… but no wild emu’s or peacocks that roam the bush.
We spent a day in Evan’s Head, snokerling and wave jumping before heading to town for ice creams from Muzza’s Milk Bar and a top up of marshmallows for toasting.
We came home with feet stained black from the Black Rock sand, sun kissed skin, happy hearts and the desire to travel even further etched into our desires for 2023…..
If you find the time to go, I highly highly recommend!

Niching down is always scary, but it was time to be brave and start living my dream life…
Since the launch of my photography business I had focused my energies into documenting families in a candid and natural style. The commercial work crept in slowly without me really realising & it was work that I really enjoyed. Then one day my eldest daughter buffered back my response of “I’ll play with you later’ with ‘I’ll soon be too old for you to play with’….. and in that instance I realised that I no longer wanted to work weekends, I wanted to be with my family.
Fast forward to some strategic planning and closing my doors to family shoots and weddings (gulp) I opened up my doors exclusively to ‘business’ photography. Fast forward a few months more and another ‘aha’ moment when I realised that taking photos for eco conscious businesses was my passion.
And here we are today….
Hello, my name is Debi and I am a reformed family photographer and passionate photographer for all things ‘eco’.
With such a big pivot and change of direction, it almost feels like I am starting again. So, I thought it would be good to do a little introduction about me and my why…

With an increasing awareness of my carbon footprint and how much I still had to learn about living a more eco conscious lifestyle I started to follow and shop with small eco conscious business owners, this lead to photoshoots and a passion for making small incremental changes as often as possible to help lighten our footprint.
It also lead to a realisation that not all eco conscious businesses know how to best market themselves visually. With emotions being an important part of the transition to changing shopping habits I realised that my storytelling style of photography could help. This is when I decided to really niche down and become specialised in working with eco conscious businesses.

I LOVE spending my days with other businesses on a like minded mission, working together to plan, style and shoot timeless photos that resonate with their customers and future customers. I also love that by the end of the shoot clients have fallen even more in love with what they do and WHY they do it….

Before moving to Australia from the UK with my husband and then one daughter in 2012, I lived and worked as an Interior Designer in London. I co founded the business and together with my amazing business partner grew the business from ‘kitchen table’ to a dedicated studio with a team of people. The experience and knowledge that I gained both from a design and business viewpoint have stood me in good stead for my business adventures on this side of the world and I am always up for a business chat!

On a personal note, I am fascinated by mindset work, with yoga and meditation. It has become an important part of my life and something that I practise on a daily basis. I am also a lover of art, craft, culture, music and all things creative… I believe it is an important part of our overall well being.
